Is Quilting a Lost Art Form?
I sure hope not. I grew up watching my mom create so many incredible things with her sewing machine - toys, quilts, blankets, clothes, placemats, wall hangings and on and on and on. The extent of her creativity has no bounds. But her sewing didn't start when she was an adult. It started when she was a teen (maybe sooner?). She started making all of her own clothes! She actually made the suit that my dad wore to their wedding.
I didn't start sewing until I got married and everything I know I learned from my mom. I fear I don't know enough to teach my kids in the way that she taught me. I started making my siblings custom quilts that were my own design for their babies and I loved doing it. Then, one of my favorite projects was when I created "pillow case pairs" for my parent's cabin. They were all animal themed and full of puns and I felt so clever and creative. One pillow would say "Owl see you..." and the other would say, "...in my dreams" and it had owls on it. Another one was "Kiss me good..." "...night or Elk". Or "I moose" "be dreaming". Oh man, those were fun to come up with.
My point is that sewing and quilting allow for so much creativity and that is the lifeblood of Parties and Playtime. We wanted to take what we love so much in our family and share it with you so that they can become traditions in your family! The patterns for our interactive quilts are just a place for you to start and add in your own creativity and personalizations. Create keepsakes that will last forever and keep the art of quilting alive!
